Rome-ing around

Roaming around Rome (Part 1)

LONG overdued post, yesh I know :P
Italy was good fun in terms of sightseeing, food and culture. Lots of smoke, Fiat's :), Vespars (cute scooters), hand gestures, leather jackets, Gucci, gladiators, Pope's and of course pizza's, pastas, and tiramisu ... hehe

This is the Coliseum, where you can find random gladiators roaming around outside, harassing you with their swords and armour (which unfortunately I could not find Mr Russell Croewe there)

Next up was the Roman ruins, pretty impressive stuff

and of course the Vatican, which was swamped full with people that we had to go back on the last day

and YES, 'my' Fiat Cinquecento, so I better start improving my driving skills and save up some money for the new one coming up which shape is very similar to the old one!

And finally the main focus is of course Italian food!
Trastevere seems to be the happening place at night for good food, the guide book didn't fail us and we did have some interesting eats ...

First up is Truffle Ravioli, which was amazingly rich and creamy, with finely grated truffles and smelled divine. Though it may look little, but it definitely filled me up due to the rich sauce :)

This is the recommended seafood risotto, Tony's (restaurant name) speciality dish, which was generous with the fresh seafood, good stuff as well, picture was a little dark tho

The beef lasagne looks equally mouth watering, cheese was oven baked perfectly to have a crisp outer later and oozingly soft and sticky inside with the meat sauce ..

We tried out their dessert as well, which is usually served in a large tray, kind of dim sum style ordering where they push trays of food around for you to see and decide. We tried something local (forgot the name) . Its something like a sponge cake, where in between , as you can see has layers of custard cream and puff pastry, topped with icing sugar on the top. Not too sweet as well which makes it really palatable :D

Will upload more food pics on part II! Dang, I'm almost late for supervision ...

Oink Oink ....

The year of the Pig :)

The feeling of Chinese New Year (CNY) is already here, when you walk around the "pasar malam's" and "pasar pagi's", seeing everything piggy besides pork. LOL. And by that I mean things like big GOLD piggie banks, piggie calendars, piggie CNY greeting cards, piggie CNY decorative items, cute piggie statues etc, you know what I mean. Not to mention CNY biscuits and even 'yee sang' (yu sheng in mandirin, a type of raw fish salad served during CNY) are already on sale a month before the festive season ...

The Christmas hols have definitely done me good. It's much more relaxing being at home instead of the Camb 'bubble' so to speak. Some shopping theraphy during the past 1 month has definitely helped too, hehe. Dissertation is still in progress, slower that I would like it to be. But ah well, it'll be done in due time :P

Food updates will only resume when I get my comp back in uni. Pictures have been accumulating so to speak and therefore should be real busy once term starts! Oooohh, I can't wait for CNY to come, maybe I should get one of those CNY CD's with the classic corny songs and blast 'em in college, haha, should be quite an experience for my neighbours there :P

Hope to slot in some musicals before term gets mad as well, lots to look forward to :)
